This family home for a private client is situated in an exclusive residential enclave in Shah Alam. Working closely with the client who had specific spatial requirements and functions, the house has a formal lounge and dining area accessed from the main entrance via a substantially generous lobby. The informal family area on the opposite side of the lobby is flanked by a 20m length swimming pool and a large koi pond. Constant cross movement of air is induced through convection which almost negates the need for air conditioning in the family area.

The first level houses the master suite which overlooks the pool and hills beyond. On the same level are 4 other en suite rooms for the children and guests. The lower ground level garage and rumpus room doubles up as an additional entertaining area whenever larger celebrations are hosted.

The design brief required traditional portico entrance and building form. Our interpretation of it is a combination of classical facade proportions but totally contemporary details in a combination of coloured glass, steel and stone. By introducing a horizontal divisional glazing and beam above the 1st floor slab line the entrance and porte-cochere is accentuated to a grander height. Silicon treated yellow granite forms a backdrop feature wall against lush soft-scape.
